In 1969, Robert McGinley started the Lifestyles Organization, and a 1998 Las Vegas Sun story on its Lifestyles convention used “the lifestyle” for swinging itself. Sites use the word too: SwingLifestyle, or SLS, has it in its name, and in October 2026 its homepage introduced Swing.com as “Your New Home for the Lifestyle Community.” We have not found a reliable date for the abbreviation LS. On Reddit’s r/Swingers it is everyday shorthand, in thread titles such as “Bored of the LS?” and “Best way to signal we are in LS to others at a non swinger resort?”
