If you want to post a missed connection online, you can do it on AseeksB, a free, text-first personal ads app for iOS and Android. Missed connections is one of its six posting categories, so you can write about the person you saw, name the moment you missed, and hope they (or someone who knows them) sees it.
A missed connection is one of the oldest kinds of personal ad. You crossed paths with someone, a stranger on a train, a person at a bar, a face in a checkout line, and you did not get a name or a number. A missed connection is a short post describing that moment, in the hope that the other person recognizes themselves and reaches out.
For years, Craigslist Missed Connections was where these lived. When Craigslist closed its Personals section in 2018, the format scattered, and the text-only Missed Connections section that survives is busy in some cities and empty in others. AseeksB brings it back as a dedicated category in a modern, moderated, mobile app.
A missed connection is a personal ad aimed at one specific person you already encountered but could not reach. Instead of describing the kind of person you want to meet, you describe a moment you both shared: where it was, roughly when, and the detail only the two of you would remember.
The appeal is simple. Sometimes you notice someone, the timing is wrong, and the chance passes. A missed connection is a second attempt at a door that already closed once.
Craigslist Missed Connections was, for years, the default place to post one. In March 2018, after FOSTA-SESTA made platforms liable for some user-generated content, Craigslist shut its entire Personals section, Missed Connections included. Missed Connections later came back under Community, text only, and how much it is used depends on the city. When we checked New York’s on October 10, 2026, its 20 newest posts went back 3 days, and 18 of them looked like genuine missed connections. The Sydney and Melbourne sections had no posts at all.
The format itself did not die. People moved it to Reddit megathreads, city subreddits, and more recently TikTok, posting the same kind of "I saw you at..." note in new places. For years, what was missing was a purpose-built home for it. AseeksB is built to be that home, with the safety controls the old free-for-all never had. For the longer story of where personals went, see Craigslist personals alternatives.
You can post one free on AseeksB. Missed connections is one of six posting categories, alongside long-term, short-term, and platonic. The app is free to download on iOS and Android, and posting is free.
Because AseeksB shows posts to people browsing nearby, a missed connection you post has a real chance of reaching someone in the same area, which is exactly where the person you saw is likely to be.
Here is what we found in New York in October 2026:
New Yorkers have been doing this for a long time. In February 1862, a man used the New York Herald’s personals to find a woman he had kept company with on the train to Baltimore. In 2009, the Brooklyn illustrator Sophie Blackall started painting Craigslist missed connections and later collected them in a book. More in our guide to personal ads in NYC.
Craigslist’s missed connections are busy in Seattle and Portland too. On October 10, 2026, Portland’s 20 newest had all been posted in the previous 6 days, and Seattle’s went back 15 days; every one we read looked genuine. Seattle also has The Stranger’s I Saw U, which still rounds up readers’ messages online every few weeks. More in our guide to personal ads in Seattle and Portland.
Craigslist’s missed connections are still there in every US city we have checked, but how busy they are varies a lot:
Posts show an approximate distance while people browse, and exact distance is only shared in chat after you connect, so you stay in control of your location.
A missed connection lives or dies on specifics. "To the person at the coffee shop" could be anyone. "To the person reading at the corner cafe on Tuesday morning, you laughed at the barista's joke" is something one real person will recognize. Name the place, the rough time, and one shared detail. Keep it kind and low-pressure, the goal is for the right person to feel comfortable reaching back.
Honestly, they are a long shot by nature, because you are hoping one specific person happens to see your post. But two things improve the odds on AseeksB. Posts surface to people browsing nearby, so you are reaching the right area, and friends sometimes spot a post and pass it along. It is not a guarantee. It is a real, low-cost second chance at a moment that already passed once.
Missed connections never really went away. They lost their main home when Craigslist closed Personals, and the text-only section that survives is uneven from city to city. If you want to post one now, AseeksB has a dedicated missed connections category, free on iOS and Android, with local browsing that gives your post a real chance of reaching the person you are hoping to find.
