New Year’s Day 1912 fell on a Monday, and the ad ran two weeks later, on a Sunday. The writer signs a full name, which few writers in this archive do, and asks for letters at general delivery in Los Angeles, where the post office held mail until it was called for: the writer had been visiting San Diego. A party was the period’s word for a person. For where people in San Diego post missed connections now, see our guide to personal ads in San Diego.
Public domain in the United States: published before 1931.
Transcribed from the page image and checked against the original; spelling and punctuation are as printed, and words broken across lines are rejoined. Capital letters are also as printed: papers set the first line of each ad in capitals, so the capitals stop wherever that line ended, sometimes in the middle of a word.
