Context

The Chutes was an amusement park on Haight Street, between Cole and Clayton streets, a few blocks east of Golden Gate Park. It had opened in 1895, and its main ride sent flat-bottomed boats down a long slide into a pool; in 1902 the park moved to Fulton Street. June 22, 1898, was a Wednesday, and the ad ran again the next day. Like a note from H. to L. in Chicago in 1877, it uses the personal column as a message board: one name, three initials, and no address.
