Elitch’s Zoological Gardens opened on May 1, 1890, at 38th Avenue and Tennyson Street in northwest Denver, and the Elitch car was the streetcar that ran out to it. May 8, 1898, was a Sunday, so the Friday was May 6. The time is printed 4·15, with a raised dot. A month later the same paper carried a search for the gentleman who smiled going home from Chutes Park. Transcribed from the page image and checked against the original; spelling and punctuation are as printed, and words broken across lines are rejoined. Capital letters are also as printed: papers set the first line of each ad in capitals, so the capitals stop wherever that line ended, sometimes in the middle of a word.
